- Resumo: Engaging with real-world cases significantly boosts learning motivation and prepares engineering students to become skilled problem solvers. This impact is especially evident in projects that promise visible and lasting contributions, particularly those addressing social or environmental sustainability. Such challenges are often open-ended, necessitating collaborative efforts among students, which can also bring about stress and uncertainty due to the unpredictable path to success. This perfectly aligns with the conference theme: "Overcoming Uncertainty – Building Bridges Between Society and Learning in the Future."
The workshop is centered around three main challenges encountered during the Erasmus+ EGALITARIAN project, which focuses on students collaboratively solving problems across borders and disciplines:
1. Scoping Projects to Fit Learning Objectives While Supporting Real Cases: Student projects and courses are typically defined by learning objectives. However, when working with real-world challenges, aligning these objectives with real cases can be difficult, as real-world scenarios are not inherently "designed" around academic learning goals.
2. Ensuring Projects Make a Real Impact: Collaborating with NGOs and other organizations can be highly rewarding. However, these organizations often have limited time and resources, making it crucial that the solutions developed are practical and valuable. Conversely, student projects sometimes fall short of this level of maturity, as the primary focus is on the learning process rather than the end result.
3. Supporting Students Throughout the Journey: Collaborating with multiple stakeholders can be challenging.
The workshop format is highly interactive and includes: - A brief introduction. - Group work, where each group identifies 1-3 strategies to address each challenge and adds them to a digital board. - Group presentations to the entire assembly.
